Power out after early morning crash

UPDATE 7.58am:

A detour is place on Maunganui Road as contractors work to restore power in the area following a crash last night.

A police media spokesperson says the crash happened at about 11.20pm.

'The report came in to emergency services just before 11.20pm that a ute had hit a power pole on Maunganui Road between Concord and Spur Aves.

'We are unsure of any injuries at this stage.”

A woman who drove past the crash scene this morning says the road is blocked and traffic is being diverted down Spur and Links Ave.

According to Powerco, around 250 properties have been affected by the power cut.

Contractors are on site working to repair the pole and Powerco estimates the power to be back on around 10.30am.

EARLIER:

Power is still out in the Mount area after a car struck a power pole early this morning.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a ute had taken out a power pole outside the Gateway Motel on Maunganui Road.

The caller says the crash happened just after 12am.

A woman who drove past the crash scene this morning says the road is blocked and traffic is being diverted down Spur and Links Ave.

According to Powerco, aroujnd 250 properties have been affected by the power cut.

Contractors are on site working to repair the pole and Powerco estimates the power to be back on around 10.30am.
