A male pedestrian has died at the scene after being hit by a car on Wharepoa Road in Netherton last night.

Police and ambulance were notified at around 9.50pm of the accident.

Wharepoa Road was closed between SH2/Pekapeka Road and Hamilton Road, and diversions put in place, while the Serious Crash Unit attended the scene.

The driver of the car is assisting police with inquiries.
