BNZ's Partners in Tauranga are welcoming a new member to their team, with the appointment of chair Dame Susan Devoy.
Dame Susan says she will use her position as a community connector to help add value to clients' businesses and to the BNZ bank.
Dame Susan Devoy.
'The role is very exciting and offers a chance to get involved with a whole range of different organisations in the Bay of Plenty.
'I like where the bank is heading and what it hopes to achieve in our community.
'I love working with people and have always thought that regardless of the strength of your brand, you need the right people there to deliver it or you won't be getting the results.”
Dame Susan will draw on all her experience from both her sporting days and her subsequent involvement in business and the not-for-profit sector, which includes her former roles as chief executive of Sport Bay of Plenty.
Managing partner of BNZ Partners Bay of Plenty Neville Whitworth says Dame Susan was the logical choice for the position thanks to the key role she has in the wider Bay of Plenty community.
'She brings a very different dynamic to our business and will help us see things from a customer perspective.
'Her connections in the Bay of Plenty are invaluable in better linking us to the community and we're delighted to have her on board.”
Dame Susan says she is looking forward to becoming an integral part of BNZ and already has ideas on ways to add value for clients.
'I see the culture of a workplace as hugely important, especially in big national organisations like BNZ.
'We want to make sure we are providing the best possible services for businesses in Bay of Plenty, so that when locals talk about BNZ they continue to have only great things to say.”
Tauranga is also getting its own BNZ Partners Business Centre, with construction scheduled for completion in April next year.

As the song goes. Congratulations Dame Susan. I'm sure the Devoy name is respected in this area and indeed the whole country.

Dame Susan was good at squash, but how does that get you a job advising all and sundry about banking?
COME ON YOGI

She is there as an advertisement and that has nothing to do with banking, ability, common sense or for example a practical knowledge to provide sound and competent advice to the bank, customers or anybody else for that matter. It is just a payment from the bank for a name nothing more to it than that!
HISTORY FROM AUCKLAND

I can not understand this, the history in Auckland is not great and particularly from a business angle, I would guess that the BNZ Partners want to follow the same monetary path as Tauranga City Council, she has been there personally and certainly has the experience and ability to lead them there. With her business naus the BNZ will need her regularly learned experience of getting out of the business that follow, but leaving town will not remedy it for BNZ with this kind of leadership.
STRANGE SCENARIO

Appointment as Chair (?) what on earth is that. What business experience does Ms Devoy have
THEY NEVER LEARN

Does this Dame have any tangible private business or banking experience if so what is the track record like.If she is providing any financial advice she needs a Financial Advisers certification.Frankly looks like BNZ falling into the old trap of putting up a "name" for financial gain and we all know where that led in the recent past .
CHAIR WHAT?

Is it a "Chair Dame" or "Dame Chair" either way it is a seat warmer!
CALIBER MEASURED

That would be about as useful as the Australian Government employing Richard Briers as head of Treasury.
BLUE CHIP CONCEPT
Posted on 17-10-2011 16:48 | By PLONKER
@ Jaffa, so I guess that means the real name of Bluechip should have been 'Blue-strip' as that is what they really did to everybody, if that the concept that is being employed here?
WOT WILL THAT COST US ALL
Posted on 18-10-2011 11:54 | By DRONE
So the bank fees will have to go up to pay for that to I guess, not needed and anyway can not say there is merit in any of it to happen as there is no ability or track record to help here.
QUALITY BUSINESS DECISION

Can not see how this is going to add to the banks ability to provide a better service to customers. I would place it in the category of the infamous statement by Muldoon about people leaving NZ for Aussie would increase the IQ in both places. I would place the bank as the Aussie and apply Sir Muldoon's comment appropriately thereto!
PERFORMANCE AND RESULT
Posted on 20-10-2011 19:14 | By YOGI
So I guess that means that there will be a look see at teh results at some point, for the bank's sake one would hope that it has nothing to do with the TCC ways of planning as all that does is design and build to fail, increase debt and fail sooner or later.
The Dames Name is the game

BROKEN THE LAW

Susan is "giving financial advice" that means she must have qualifications, applied for approval and got a certificate to say so, lets see it then.
SHE CAN'T DO THAT
Posted on 26-10-2011 14:49 | By SCOTT NUFFIN4U
Not only no certificate but the idea of it is rather scary actually, where is her 'self made' abaility displayed to show how some contribution can be made to the bank customers. Looks to be just another gravy train thing going on
