A man injured yesterday while collecting paua near Mayor Island has been flown to hospital.
The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the island just after 1 pm.
The 20-year-old was diving and collecting paua when a paua he picked up sucked back onto the rock.
The man yanked his finger out resulting in the near amputation of his right middle finger.
He was flown to Tauranga Hospital for treatment.
