Omokoroa and Minden residents may face water restrictions unless they start conserving water.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council has placed Limited Water Level signs in the Central Water Zone areas of Omokoroa Peninsula, and Minden to encourage lower use.
Council utilities manager Kelvin Hill says only the Central Supply Zone is affected at present – Eastern and Western levels are fine.
The dry spell has created greater demand on water and the Central supply zone has shown a steady increase in daily consumption.
Kelvin warns the system won't keep pace with demand unless water use is reduced.
``We are urging consumers to please be more conservative with use. Failure to do so will result in water restrictions being put in force.''
Central water levels are currently at 85 per cent of full production and Council staff are monitoring levels daily.

What is going on here! They cannot supply the existing population at Omokoroa water. When the council is pushing for 10,000 - 12,000 new homes here!
NO WAY

I for one will not be cutting back on water usage, even if restrictions are forced. I will continue to use my sprinklers to keep my lawns and gardens looking great until Council stop issuing building consents in Omokoroa. If there is insufficient water to service the existing residents, why the hell are Council allowing hundreds more houses to be built.....pretty dumb!!!!

At least we will have a great Museum to visit. Bet they will love that a lot of un showered smelly people from Omok in their bright new Museum. Good to see rates being well spent

What can you say nothing except .... If you keep building houses & not upgrading roads, water what do you expect. Maybe if the council addressed some of the real issues instead of spending millions on libraries there might be water & better roads

You are spot on! We did not want this population explosion. As all those years ago ORA(Omokoroa rate payers association) tried to stop the council from doing this when they hooked us up to the unlimited sewage supply. As always council wins after it has unlimited funds thanks to the rate payers. Just wait till there is another 10,000 plus cars trying to get to Tauranga
Council stands to make millions

Why would they stop issuing consents, they build infrastructure servicing a few properties , strike a rate to reflect the fair division of costs among those propereties and then quadruple the number of properties without altering the rate per property...NO profit in that is there?
Council - start earning your money?

What excellent comments by the correspondents. We have the highest rates in the country, unregulated growth, dodgy approvals and they allowed a reported mains leak to flow for 3 days. The excuse was 'we are so busy at this time of the year'. We need the dog to start wagging the tail?

This Debacle just high-lights councils poor planning and continued incompetence. It's run by Managers who believe they can do no wrong. When they are they just load the mistake onto their rate-payers.
