Cooler temperatures are likley to prevail this weekend with predictions of snow showers for the Central North Island.

The MetService is forecasting snow showers on Saturday, from 11am Saturday to midnight Saturday.

"One to 3cm of snow may accumulate on the road above 800 metres.

"Further snow showers are likely on Sunday."

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions in the area.
