Spring time in Tauranga

The weather forecast today is for fine spells with a few showers and gusty westerlies.

It's a three-clothing layer day today with a high of 16 and an overnight low of 11 degrees.

This day in NZ history in 1862 The Matilda Wattenbach brought 352 settlers to New Zealand.

These Nonconformist (non-Anglican Protestant) immigrants came from England. Another 315 arrived on the Hanover a week later, and six more immigrant ships had arrived by 1865.

This day in 1954 New Zealand signed the Manila Pact which aimed to contain the spread of communism in the South East Asia region.

Also known as the South East Asia Treaty Organisation (SEATO) the signatories to the pact were Australia, France, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
