Motorists can expect further delays on Chapel Street this week as works commence on improving pavements near its intersection with Marsh Street. The works require rolling lane closures in the area. These closures will be undertaken between the hours of 6pm-6am. One lane will be available to traffic on a metal surface during the day and caution is advised when driving through the area.
This information provided by New Zealand Transport Agency's weekly bulletin for the week beginning Monday, October 26, published below.
1. Harbour Link Project
Intended programme
- Installation of a traffic diversion on Takitimu Dr from the footbridge to the Elizabeth St roundabout. All traffic will be diverted onto the eastbound traffic lanes. One lane available at all times for traffic. During this diversion traffic will be manoeuvred across the lanes, caution is required.
- A series of short-term lane closures will be installed on the intersection of Chapel St and Marsh St to install traffic light mast arms and test pits to be undertaken. One lane available at all times.
- A short-term lane closure will be installed on Chapel St for concrete cutting on a median island. One lane available at all times.
- A short-term lane diversion will be installed on Dive Cr to pour a kerb. One lane available at all times.
- The current footpath diversion in place on Takitimu Dr from Waihi Rd to Takitimu Dr footbridge will be extended. The new diversion will run from Waihi Rd to the end of West St (by the Chapel St/Marsh St intersection). This diversion is required to undertake work on the Takitimu Dr footbridge. Detour signs will be in place.
Long-term closures:
- Installation of long-term lane closures, eastbound and westbound on Takitimu Dr. Speed restrictions are in place. Footpath diversions are also installed from Waihi Rd footbridge to West St/Chapel Street, please follow the signposted detour. This footpath diversion will be in place for approximately four weeks.
- Installation of a long-term lane diversion on Marsh St to Dive Cr. Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to travel along the signposted route and use the new shared walkway/cycleway on the new Harbour Bridge.
- Continuation of a long-term footpath closure on Chapel St (old BP site side of Chapel St). Pedestrians will be diverted at the controlled intersections at Chapel St and Bay Central Shopping Centre.
- Long-term lane closures are in place along Hewletts Rd (city bound traffic only), which involves the reduction from three to two lanes from Totara St to Tasman Quay. Tasman Quay to Ballance Corner is reduced to one lane to allow for a traffic diversion at the old toll plaza site for construction of the new road.
- Pedestrian and cycle access from Totara St south onto Aerodrome Bridge is closed until December 2009. Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to use the new shared walkway/cycleway which runs from Tasman Quay intersection on Hewletts Rd over the new Harbour Bridge to Mirrielees Rd.
