Stanaway wins on GP3 debut

Tauranga driver Richie Stanaway won on debut in the GP3 Series in Belgium.

Richie finished 4.007 seconds ahead of his teammate James Calado to lead the second Lotus ART 1-2 win of the weekend.

The result ensured that Lotus ART sealed the teams' title for the second season in a row with one round remaining.
From pole, Richie lost the start to Jenzer Motorsport's Nico Müller, but he fought back to regain his place at the front and from then on the race was sewn up.
Richie built a commanding lead, which was as much as 6.1 seconds midway through the race, to take the victory.

Series contender Alexander Sims had another disappointing morning when a first lap clash ended his race prematurely.
In qualifying, Richie survived a minor collision with another competitor, who unexpectedly slowed for a slight corner. Richie's Lotus ART car suffered damage to the left front wing.
It didn't hold him back though and he continued to move up the field to finish eighth, achieving his personal goal of a top 10 place.
Race two qualifying was determined by race one results. The top eight cars start in reverse order and this gave Richie pole position for race two in his GP3 debut weekend.

The final GP3 round is in Monza on September 10.
The GP3 Series car is a standardised car used by all of the competing teams.

The car is designed and built by Dallara, which produces the GP2 chassis.

GP3 use a 280HP Renault engine, a six speed longitudinal sequential Hewland gearbox, Pirelli tyres and Brembo brakes. It is the series second season.
