Changes for Valley Road bus route

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council is looking to address concerns raised by residents about the number of Bay Hopper buses travelling on Valley Road in Mount Maunganui.

BOP Regional Council is looking to change the number of Bay Hopper buses travelling along Valley Road.

Changes to the Valley Road bus route will be in place by Christmas, according to the Council's Public Transport Subcommittee.

'While the Bay Hopper route 30 will be retained, routes one and two will be re-directed on to either Mauganui Road or Oceanbeach Road,” says Councillor Doug Owen.

'In addition, some adjustments will be looked at to alleviate concerns around the size of buses using Valley Road.”

Doug says the changes meant the number of buses using Valley Road will reduce from 10 per hour to 2 per hour.

'The Regional Council will also investigate whether it's possible to operate using smaller buses on the remaining route 30.”

Doug says they understand the difficulties Valley Road residents have been experiencing and he hopes these changes will address their concerns.

The Regional Council ONLY responded after the 'repeated' intervention by TCC elected members.

mr guy, i am a valley road resident. how dare you suggest that TCC had anything to do with this decision. it was the residents that kept this alive. if you disagree with this, please provide me with dates when TCC councillors met with regional council councillors and staff or perhaps you could provide me with copies of all the correspondence that you personally have sent to the regional council staff and councillors. this would certainly constitute "repeated" intervention. i'm happy to congratulate TCC if it makes good decisions but don't be so desperate to claim others credit.

Victims probably voted for current Councillor turkeys !!

Can someone tell me what other decision could have been reached? Buses in this number should never have been going up & down this narrow gutted street and did not need to.Shame on you Regional Council and the Bus outfit and more fools you Valley Road residents that ever put up with it.
