Flooding photos from around Tauranga

Surface flooding in Ohauiti and Maungatapu. Watch below a video of flooding in Te Puke.

This morning's deluge of rain has left some Tauranga streets flooded.

Just after 10am, a heavy downpour swamped the area as a slow-moving low moved over the Bay.

One resident waded out into the waters to snap some photos for SunLive, another filmed the deluge in Te Puke - watch the videos below.

There are also reports of a large slip blocking No.3 Road in Te Puke.

Below are photos of flooding in Ohauiti and Maungatapu.

Why

I would like to see CITY CARE get out and clear the intakes, along the roads, of rubbish and leaves. This is why there is surface flooding. They spend many hours down in Waipuna Park, lets try something worthwhile.

In the middle of a torrential downpour

at about 10am today, a City Care worker in skins was using a weed eater on the long-ish grass on the bank just south of 9th Ave corner. Maybe he would have been better utilised by his employers finding blocked drains and clearing them, instead of creating more kerbside flotsam in the downpour.

council contractors

citycare are not the council contractors for the maintenance of roads and stormwater. higgins are the local roads contractor and downer are the local stormwater contractor. citycare are the council parks contractor for tauranga side and smart environmental are the council parks contractor for mount papamoa side. downer do the mowing for council stormwater reserves. recreational services do the walkways and pathways throughout the city and also do the council sports fields.

Thanks for that. So, it looks like Downer need to get on the job. There is not much point in investing in better drainage if it is then allowed to be become blocked with debris...
