The weather is set to ramp up over the weekend, and the scheduled Greerton Vintage and Retro Fayre has sadly been cancelled.

Greerton mainstreet manager Sally Benning says cancelling the event booked for Saturday, March 11, is a necessary shame.

'Although it was a real tough call especially as the sun keeps popping out - we have to go with all the weather forecasts.

'There is a heavy rain warning in place for Tauranga for later today and tomorrow with possible thunder as well.”

More than 400 members of the Bay of Plenty Vintage Car Club were expecting to show off their wares at the event, as well as some two-wheeled stunners from the Tauranga Classic Motorcycles Club.

But Sally says the event will surely go ahead in the future.

'Due to the overwhelming enthusiasm of the Car Clubs and stall holders, we will certainly run this event in the future”
