Viaduct opening ready

Opening the Chapel Street viaduct on the Harbour Link Project is back on track after weather delayed its scheduled opening this week.
NZTA project manager Kevin Reid says that following a break in the wet weather over the past week and a huge effort from the construction team, the viaduct would now be opened to traffic on Monday morning.

The Chapel Street viaduct will be open.

'I would like to remind people that while motorists familiarise themselves with the new road layouts, traffic flows are likely to be slower for the first few days,” says Kevin.
On Monday morning motorists travelling from Mount Maunganui will notice the biggest change to their morning commute when they are no longer able to access Dive Crescent, Mirrielees Road or Marsh Street directly from the new Harbour Bridge.
Their exit points will be at either the Chapel Street off ramp or from Takitimu Drive onto Elizabeth Street.
A roadside information sign will be used to advise of the exit point onto the Chapel Street off ramp.
Extended queues are likely city bound at these two exit points, particularly at peak periods, until the Dive Crescent off ramp opens in December.
Another significant change will be that Chapel Street traffic from Cameron Road and Otumoetai will be able to use the new on ramp to the viaduct off Chapel Street.
