Sulphur Point wrangle goes legal

The dispute between the Port of Tauranga Limited and the NZL Group will go to court.

Port of Tauranga lodged (declaratory judgement) proceedings in the High Court today, in an attempt to resolve the dispute with NZL which has been ongoing since Christmas Eve last year. This was when NZL lodged a claim to re-establish marshalling operations at Sulphur Point.
'We are disappointed to have to initiate proceedings, but as a listed company, we cannot allow this important matter to remain unresolved, nor allow NZL to continue trying to litigate this issue through the media,” says PTL chief executive officer Mark Cairns.
'As this case is now before the courts, we will not be making any further public comment.”
NZL Group previously operated at the Port of Tauranga as a marshalling company and stevedore before 2004 after taking over P&O Ports.
