Zespri: Challenges ahead

New Zealand kiwifruit marketing and exporting business, Zespri International Limited's CEO, Lain Jager, is describing this year as, 'one of the most promising, yet challenging years for kiwifruit.”
In a season update, released by Zespri, Lain says the first half of the season was a success with 'solid sales volumes in all markets to date”.

He warns that there is still a long way to go however, 'Although we have passed the significant half way mark in a strong position, there are still challenges ahead.”
'The economic environment will continue to affect consumer spending and we will need to work harder and smarter to ensure that Zespri kiwifruit continue to maintain strong sales as competing summer fruit volumes increase,”
The entire Zespri kiwifruit crop has now been picked and all of the Zespri Gold kiwifruit variety has left New Zealand. The French Carriers Company vessel, Regulus, was the last ship to leave the Port of Tauranga with the Gold kiwifruit and is due to arrive in Tokyo this week.
The Zespri Green kiwifruit will continue to be exported until November.
