A Tauranga woman is using her skills to help teach other people how to get the best out of their voice.
Carly Shorter has been in the media industry for 13 years. She has been a radio announcer, as well as doing voice overs on a commercial basis.
Carly Shorter, right, shows Balance operations administrator Jacqui Arthur how to get the best out of her voice.
'It's really important for people to make a good first impression. That not only includes their personal appearance, but their verbal one as well.”
Carly says people are automatically turned off when they hear someone who sounds like they don't care and have something else they would rather be doing.
'Times are tough at the moment. If people feel like they are not being listened to they will go to someone who will. Businesses could lose out.”
Carly is taking what she knows about how best to utilise your voice and is teaching it to people through her Strictly Speaking Course.
'It's all about voice improvement and training, not speech therapy or the ‘How now brown cow' but how to use your voice to better represent yourself and your business more effectively.
'It's hard to know if you or staff are communicating effectively, but whether we know it or not people are making assumptions on you within the first 10 seconds of you speaking. Based on that they will decide whether to do business with you or not.”
Carly believes if people sound confident, professional, credible and trust worthy, they are more likely to use your business.
