Waitangi weekend is looking like the perfect long weekend with sunny skies, high temperatures and light breezes over the three days.

'There's a few showers around tomorrow morning but they will clear up and turn into a really nice day, and that looks to be the pattern over the weekend,” says MetService forecaster Lisa Murray.

Saturday there are some westerly winds coming across that Tauranga will probably feel that more than the other side of the bay.

'But Sunday it will be really light winds. There will be just a sea breeze kicking in, in the afternoon and even Monday looks good.”

Temperatures: Tauranga, 25 for tomorrow, 28 for Saturday and Sunday.

'Tomorrow night looks like a pretty humid muggy night. Temperatures probably won't drop below 20 degrees and given that 18 is meant to be the optimum, after that things get restless for a lot of people,” says Lisa.

Whakatane can expect a high of 24C tomorrow, 18C overnight, 26C Saturday and 28C on Sunday.

Rotorua is expected 25C Saturday and 26C on Sunday.

'They overnight tomorrow at 17C, considering they are inland and a bit higher, that's quite a quite a warm temperature for them,” says Lisa.
