The scheduled opening of the Chapel Street viaduct to traffic for the New Zealand Transport Agency's Harbour Link project has been delayed due to wet weather.
NZTA project manager Kevin Reid says the scheduled date for opening the viaduct was Thursday but will now be Monday October 12.
Traffic flows are likely to be a bit slower for the first few days of the viaduct opening as motorists familiarise themselves with the new road layouts.
A major change for motorists travelling from the Mount is there will be no direct access from the new harbour bridge to Dive Crescent, Mirrielees Road or Marsh Street until the project is completed in December.
In the meantime, motorists will be able to access these roads from the viaduct, exiting at the Chapel Street off ramp, or by continuing across the viaduct and down to Takitimu Drive, then making a U-turn at the Elizabeth Street roundabout and travelling back over the viaduct.
Extended queues are likely city bound at these two exit points, particularly at peak periods, until the Dive Crescent off ramp opens in December.
