Racing fun for all at Tauranga

It's not too late to head down to the races and enjoy a family day out.

The first race of the nine race event is already done and dusted but Racing Tauranga promises there is much more action to come.

To get in for free, take down the front copy of the December 30 edition of the Weekend Sun.

The track is currently a good three with the rail in the true position, and the nine race programme will wind up at 5.58pm.

Racing Tauranga Rob Weatherley says today is the Interislander Summer Race Festival.

'It's generally our biggest race meeting of the year. It's the day where we get all the public, the beach goers and the holiday makers.

'The history of the meeting has been very good for us in the past, last year was a washout unfortunately, but generally speaking this meeting goes off very well.”

Rob says it's a good little picnic type atmosphere.

'New World is our major sponsor and they have a kids' entertainment area up on the marquee area. There's a children's playground.

'It's a great place for mum, dad and the kids to come. The kids can entertain themselves and we also have people from the racing board looking after the kids, and mum and dad can have a little punt and enjoy the day as well.”
