Keep Tauranga Beautiful and Tauranga City Council have launched a pilot project to help holidaymakers dispose of their waste at tourism hotspots during the festive season.
Six recycling stations staffed by recycling ambassadors are in place around Tauranga, with two each downtown, on The Mall in Pilot Bay and at Mount Maunganui's Main Beach.
Keep Tauranga Beautiful branch chairman Marty Hoffart says the project is a great way of not only promoting sensible waste management but also showcasing Tauranga.
'We live in such a beautiful city with incredible beaches and natural attractions and this is a great chance to show all our visitors how much we care about keeping the place clean and tidy.”
The recycling ambassadors will be in place daily, except for New Year's Eve, from 10am-6pm until January 6.
Their job is to help educate and assist the public dispose of their rubbish in one of the three receptacles; compost, recycling or landfill.
They will also be monitoring council-managed rubbish bins, alerting contractors when the bins overflow or need servicing.
