Good morning Sunners, welcome to Boxing Day. Hopefully you all had an amazing Christmas Day filled with lots of good tidings, laughs, amazing kai and loved ones.

Weather-wise, today should be a mainly fine with light winds, possibly an afternoon shower, but nothing too gloomy for the arrival of mega cruise ship Ovation of the Sea and Colouring book C.I.T.Y's Chalk Art Event in the Tauranga CBD.

The USD $1 billion (NZD $1.4B) Royal Caribbean Ovation of the Sea is the largest cruise ship to ever visit New Zealand, and arrived into port carrying 4905 passengers and 1500 crew at about 6.15am. The ship is due to depart tonight at 6pm.

Tauranga is one of only six ports in the country able to accommodate the 168,666-tonne vessel which is longer than three rugby fields (348m) and the fourth biggest cruise ship in the world.

To commemorate the event, a special ceremony will take place on board Ovation where a plaque will be presented to the Port of Tauranga by the ship's captain and will be attended by Tauranga City Mayor Greg Brownless, and Tourism Bay of Plenty's chairman Des Hammond and CEO Kristin Dunne.

And to also celebrate the Ovation's maiden voyage, Royal Caribbean is running a selfie competition where one lucky person will win a cruise on the newest, biggest and most technologically advanced ship New Zealand has ever seen.

All you need to do is take a selfie with the Ovation when in it arrives in port and post it to the vessel's New Zealand Facebook Page with the tag @RCLOvation. Entries close January 6, 2017.

Following its stop in Tauranga, Ovation will head to Auckland before returning to Tauranga on February 5.

To coincide with Ovation's arrival, Colouring Book C.I.T.Y (Colour In Tauranga Your way) is inviting all you creative folk to help them create a colourful scene on the pavements near the Kiosk on The Strand in the CBD from 10am.

Running in conjunction with Downtown Tauranga, today's theme is ‘Draw Your Home City Icons' where artists will be asked to draw their experiences or icons from their home cities.

The event is expected to get underway at 11:30am and chalk will be provided until about 1pm. If you would like to to help create the photo frame outlines which artists will use for the home city artworks, please show up at 10am.

'It'll be interesting to see what cities are represented. Hope you can be part of our CITY today!” says Colouring Book C.I.T.Y Mayor Lillybeth Melmoth.
