A modern-day retelling of William Shakespeare's classic tale of star-struck lovers Romeo and Juliet is set to screen in Mount Maunganui tonight.
As part of its Summer Series, Night Owl Cinema is proud to present Baz Luhrmanns' retelling of Romeo and Juliet down at Mount Drury on Maunganui Road, from 6pm. Entry costs a gold coin.
Romeo and Juliet follows the Montagues and Capulets - two feuding families whose children meet and fall in love. But the star-crossed lovers have to hide their aroha from the world because they know their parents will never allow them to be together.
'We're excited, it really feels like summer today and the weather's looking perfect for tonight's screening of Romeo and Juliet,” saysNight Owl Cinema's Kimberley Cleland.
With the movie set to screen at dark, which is roughly 8.30pm, there's plenty of time for people to wander down to fill their puku with some sumptuous kai provided The Street Food Union food trucks while being serenaded by the musical stylings of acoustic duo Izzy & Moe.
This summer Night Owl Cinema will hold screening sessions at Mount Drury along with Waihi, Omokoroa, Papamoa and Welcome Bay. Kicking their season off on Labour Weekend, films screened so far include Italian surf film Bella Vita, classic 80's comedy Ghostbusters, and children's favourite Toy Story
Kimberley says the crowds have been really amazing so far and the screenings have been wonderful events with a very nice vibe and lots of people coming down to have a good time.
'One of my favourite films coming up is the Lion King on January 4, and I'm also really looking forward to Born to Dance which we'll be showing on December 28.
'We'll be working with Urban Dance to run a dance competition as part of the screening, it'll be a really great night.”
