TEL: passing lane closed

The second south-bound passing lane on State Highway 2, between Te Maunga and the Domain Road roundabout, is permanently closed.

The NZ Transport Agency has closed the passing lane as it continues work on the Tauranga Eastern Link project.

The closure enables construction work to start on State Highway 2 between Bruce Road and the Domain Road roundabout.

Coinciding with the closure, a long-term temporary speed restriction of 80km/hr is also in place between Bruce Road and Domain Road, for both north and southbound traffic.

In order to carry out the realignment work in this area, install concrete protection barriers and remove existing line marking, night time works will take place from Sunday, July 17 through to Friday, July 22. This work is to be conducted between 6pm and 6am each day.

NZTA Tauranga Eastern Link principal project manager Andrew Scott says at night there is a temporary speed restriction of 50km/hr along the works affected stretch of road.

'I would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience while this work is being undertaken,” says Andrew.

Ha, why do we need a passing lane...

...when NZTA builds double lanes through urban areas? While stupidity is not a prerequisite for a job application at NZTA management, it seems that it isn't a disadvantage either.
