Works drop speed limit

Motorists travelling on Parton Road between Tara Road and Bell Road are facing a temporary speed limit there of 30km/h.

This reduced speed limit, to be imposed between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, is to allow large construction vehicles to cross the road.

These vehicles are working on the Tauranga Eastern Link project.

NZ Transport Agency TEL principal project manager Andrew Scott says current works include the construction of haul roads along the length of the project site.

These haul roads are used to minimise interruption to regular traffic by large works vehicles.

'We're committed to maximising safety and minimising disruption for local residents as we build the Tauranga Eastern Link,” says Andrew.

'As well as providing easier access to the site for construction traffic, these temporary roads will greatly reduce the amount of heavy construction traffic on local roads.

'This reduces congestion and safety risks associated with having an increased number of heavy vehicles on the roads.

'For up to a year, speed restrictions will be in place and manual stop/go traffic control will be used when the large dump trucks cross Parton Road to move fill.

'During this time we will try to minimise the effect on the travelling public wherever possible.”
