A Tauranga Boys' College local derby will grab plenty of attention in round two of the WBOPCA Division One Secondary School competition this Saturday.

Last weekend the two sides sharpened up for Saturday's showdown with a win and a loss on their respective ledger cards.

TBC White made a solid start to the local schools competition, with a good win over Otumoetai Cadets, who were making their competition debut. The Tauranga Boys' side batted first and posted 124 all out, before bowling Cadets out for 98 to claim a 26 run victory.

Tauranga Boys' Blue squared off in the opening round with Mount Maunganui Gold. The game settled the score between the two sides, who finished on top of the Term One standings, but never got to decide the Div One title due to inclement weather.

The Tauranga Boys' representatives won the toss and elected to bat. Opener Cam Littlewood top scored with 44 runs as his team were bowled out for a solid 164. Chris Bidois did major damage with the ball for the Mount grabbing five wickets at a cost of just 16 runs.

Steven Whyte was in grand touch with the bat in the Mount Maunganui reply to top score with an unbeaten 67, with Stefan Heuberger (43) and Ethan Severinson (34) making solid contributions as their team got home to a seven wicket win.

Other sides to bank Division One first round points were Bethlehem College, who chased down TBC Colts 124 for the loss of six wickets, and Trident High School, who beat John Paul College by default.

This Saturday, Mount Gold meet Trident High School at Blake Park, John Paul College host Bethlehem College in Rotorua with Cadets and TBC Colts meeting at Waipuna Park.

Division Two winners last weekend were TBC Sabina, Bethlehem College second eleven and TBC Cavaliers.

Round Two sees another Tauranga Boys College derby with TBC Cavaliers and TBC Sabina squaring off at Waipuna two, Cadets meeting Mount Green and Bethlehem College hosting new recruits Waihi College.
