There's a bit of a song and dance taking place outside the Rockshop in the Tauranga CBD this afternoon.
Local musician and tutor Leah Carroll is performing a mix of original music and covers outside the music store on Elizabeth Street as part of the Buskathon 4 StarJam which runs until 3.30pm.
'It's been great so far, there's been a steady stream of people wandering by and having a listen which has been cool.”
The Buskathon is a fundraising initiative which aims to generate money for StarJam, a not-for-profit which provides musical musical workshops for young people with disabilities across the country.
Leah is a tutor with StarJam and says it's an amazing organisation to be involved with.
'The work is very rewarding and I just absolutely love it. We provide a couple of dance classes as well as an African drumming class, and the kids are just amazing to work with.”
Along with hearing some awesome tunes, The Rapid Relief food truck is also on hand selling some tasty burgers that'll keep the crowd satisfied.
Chief executive Mary Ansell says the Buskathon 4 StarJam fundraiser ticks all the boxes for the non-profit organisation.
'It is about music within a fun environment, it raises the StarJam profile and helps raise funds to ensure we are able to continue our wonderful weekly workshops with the aim to open more workshops for other would be Jammer.
Buskathon 4 StarJam is on now outside the Tauranga Rockshop on Elizabeth Street until 3.30pm. For more information visit: www.starjam.org
