Nose-to-tail traffic in Te Puna

Traffic is jammed heavily on State Highway 2 north of Bethlehem due to roadworks with motorists being diverted down Station Road.

The diversion is for both directions of traffic.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline describes the congestion as nose-to-tail and taking forever.

The roadworks project is a road widening of the state highway near its intersection with Minden Road.

Why widen a corner only ? the whole thing should be two lanes, use the Eastern Aertial $$$ at least there is a use for it all then!

Stupidity of diversion

This situation is all to common on that stretch of SH2 and is not helped by the stupidity of whoever is in charge of these diversions. They are oblivious to the problems they cause to motorists and couldnt care less anyway.

Waste of money

Widening the road will only increase the speed of traffic going through Te Puna. A simple, inexpensive solution would have been to drop the speed limit to maybe 60kph

When the traffic is quiet it is smoko time and when the busy time comes they try and work, as soon as the traffic goes away they are all packed up and go home. A little planning would help a lot ...

Reduce traffic on SH2 - let's get a rail passenger service to and from Auckland and Hamilton.
