Career boost event underway

Workers around the Western Bay of Plenty can boost their career chances by getting involved in the month-long employment promotion that is underway.

Western Bay at Work project manager Lyn Parlane says the career and training opportunity showcase involves over 30 events and will offer something for everyone.

'We've had an amazing response from organisations keen to get involved this year – and have got great events suited to everyone from school-leavers through to a seminar on helping your grandchildren make good career decisions,” says Lyn.

Events include a career expo, tips on improving a CV and information on opportunities on different industries – including medicine and green chemistry.

Lyn says building a skilled workforce will help attract and retain business in the region.

'A healthy workplace provides a competitive advantage.

'As employers, we can attract and retain talent more easily if we can demonstrate sound sustainability vision and practices.”

The event, which runs until Friday, July 15, focuses on sustainability this year.

Lyn says the theme was chosen because it is a good business practice and can bring significant competitive advantage to the region.
