An ice skating rink at a Welcome Bay school is serving a double purpose; teaching children how to ice skate and raising funds.
In a collaboration between the Selwyn Ridge Star Committee and the Welcome Bay School PTA, the Ice Skate Tour is being hosted at Selwyn Ridge Primary School through to Sunday evening.

Children from Selwyn Ridge, Welcome Bay and local kindergartens are taking part in ice skating lessons during school time, says Welcome Bay PTA spokesperson Lorien Martin.
'The Ice Rink is being hosted in the Selwyn Ridge School Hall, Welcome Bay and is open to the public after school and over this weekend.”
The rink is open to the public tonight from 3pm-7pm, tomorrow from 10am to 5pm and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
Children can take to the rink for $7 and adults are $13, smallest skate size is 9-4/5yrs.
'This is a fantastic fundraiser with our school communities receiving a percentage of the public sales,” says Lorien.
'We are also selling food and drink during the public opening hours as well as a sausage sizzle with the support of the Hellers Sausages for schools programme.”
Tomorrow, there will also be additional craft stalls, coffee and a bouncy castle for those too small to ice skate.
