The Bay of Plenty Steamers have registered their first win in the Mitre 10 Cup with a 52-25 thrashing of Northland at Rotorua International Stadium on Friday.
With the celebration of club rugby and the championship winner Bay of Plenty 1976 side the Steamers had plenty to play for.

In his blazer game, halfback Ruki Tipuna sparked the Steamer's first attack leading to a penalty in handy range.
But instead the Steamers were rewarded after choosing the lineout option. The forward pack drove over the line with flanker Jesse Parete scoring the first try of the match. Kelly Haimona converted for the Steamers to take an early 7-0 lead.
Northland were awarded a penalty for obstruction shortly after, allowing Peter Breen to convert with ease to close the gap to 7-3 to the Steamers. Waisea Lawebuka then crossed the line for a try out wide to give Northland a narrow lead, which they the extended to 11-7 moments later.
But with a penalty the Steamers sparked an attack through winger Monte Ioane. A great chip kick from Kelly Haimona to Terrence Hepetema saw Hepetema in under the posts. Haimona converted to give the Steamers a 14-11 lead.
Steamers No 8 Joe Tupe was clobbered in the air taking the kick-off which meant 10 minutes in the bin for Tom Robinson.
With a man advantage the Steamers lifted the intensity up front. Hepetema went close before Parete crashed over for his second try to take the Steamers into a 19-11 lead at the break.
From the start of the second half the Steamers attacked with vengeance. Tupe first to score from a driving Steamers forward pack. Then a penalty try and yellow card would see the visitors down to 13 men and twenty points down.
Tupe again proved menacing for the visitors scoring his second of the night. The Steamers continued to attack, this time Isaac Te Aute stepping on the gas to score in the corner, seeing the homeside lead 45-18 over the visitors.
Te Rangi Fraser finished the run of tries for the night after stepping the Northland defence to go in under the posts.
Northland squeezed a try in, in the final minutes of the match, but the Steamers dominance proved too strong taking the 52-25 win over the visitors.
The Steamers will now head to Wellington to play the Lions next Friday before their mid-week clash against Southland on Wednesday, September 21.
They will then return from their time on the road to face Auckland again at Rotorua International Stadium on Sunday, September 25.
