New online vendor trading well

In its first month of operation, more than 30,000 Western Bay of Plenty residents have visited TrustPower's deals website, OfferZone.co.nz

The website is a portal for businesses in the region to provide special offers on products and services for TrustPower's customers.

There are over 900 offers from Western Bay businesses on this site.

Offer Zone's Katie Clark says it's exciting to see customers jump at the opportunity to get a bargain and support Western Bay businesses at the same time.

'It's an awesome way for all of our customers to benefit,” says Katie.

'Not only are our business customers keen to promote their products, our residential customers get these great offers too.”

Katie says feedback from customers who have taken up Offer Zone deals has been positive.

'Thanks to a brilliant offer through Offer Zone, I made considerable savings and have a heat pump of a much higher quality than I'd initially considered,” says Alison of Tauranga, who brought a heat pump from Snowden Electrical through Offer Zone and saved $970.

'We've had a phenomenal response to the launch of Offer Zone – it's great to see so many Tauranga customers using the site,” says Katie.

Offer Zone is not an auction site and there isn't just one deal a day.

Instead there are hundreds of offers available every day.

Its gratifying to have a site that not only supports local business but doesnt make them cheapen their business and products by having to place a buy on get one free or 50% discount or however the 'others' like to say it. I have been inundated with offers from the likes of dailydo and grabone and a few others trying to get me to discount heavily and pay them a commission for the priviledge! I like a bargain just like the rest of us but I know a business that has used one of these site and now she can't honour the bookings! Offerzone at least lets you have full control over your offer so you can make it realistic to both the seller and buyer. Good on ya mate!

Its only a bargain if you need it.

Disappointment

I visited this site soon after it opened, saw a local company listed, liked the deal offered, so as per the site obtained a voucher number to present when paying for goods. I went to the business and selected several items, however when I came to pay for them, the business owner knew nothing about his business being advertised on this site. He said Trustpower had sent them a proposal which they did not accept and did not authorise and he had no knowledge of his business being on this site and was certainly not going to give me the advertised deal! It was very uncomfortable, I got the impression he thought I was trying to rip them off. I came home and rang Trustpower who apologised and said they would investigate and get back to me. That was several weeks ago and I have heard nothing from them, although I did see that a couple of days after my call this business was removed from the site. Considering Trustpower's lack of response, and not wishing any repeat of this most unpleasant experience, I have not visited the site again.
