The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to plan their journey before heading out in Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

Major repair work is continuing at State Highway 5, 17km south of Rotorua. The road will be closed for approximately two hours from 10am today.
Motorists can use the Transport Agency website before travelling to choose the best routes and times to start their journeys.
For real-time information on highway conditions and incidents, or to report issues on the network, call 0800 4 HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49), visit www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic, or by following the Transport Agency on Facebook or @nztawaibop on Twitter.
Work that is scheduled to start in the next week or is currently underway is detailed below, to help people plan ahead when travelling. Works are weather dependent and may be postponed if necessary.
Tauranga – State Highway 2 and 29a - AIMS Games Opening Event at ASB Arena
The AIMs Games opening ceremony will be held at ASB Arena on Sunday, September 4. The event continues until Friday, September 9.
During the week, there will be events at most sport facilities and reserves throughout the City.
The Transport Agency asks motorists to allow extra time while travelling during this time.
More information about the games is available here.
SH29/SH36 Takitimu Drive roundabout upgrade
Motorists are asked to drive with extra care and expect delays when travelling through the roundabout over the coming weeks.
Tauranga City Council's contractor is carrying out works, so speed restrictions, lane closures, and occasional stop/go traffic management will be in place at times.
SH29A Maungatapu underpass
On Monday September 5 west-bound traffic will be temporarily re-routed to allow construction to start on the second Maungatapu roundabout bridge.
The minor traffic shift should not affect the flow of traffic; however, some motorists may experience a slight change in the timing of the lights.
Traffic is already using the first bridge, which was opened in June.
SH2 Te Puna Road roundabout
Roadworks are starting on the SH2 Te Puna Road roundabout.
A 30kph speed restriction will be put in place from 9am to 4pm. Extra care is required when traveling through this site.
Te Puke Highway
Contractors will be carrying out road repairs between Kopuroa Stream Bridge and Poplar Lane starting next week.
Temporary speed limits will be in place, and motorists can expect delays.
SH5 Tumunui - south of Rotorua
State Highway 5 at Tumunui, 17kms south of Rotorua will be closed for up to two hours late this morning while emergency repairs are undertaken on the temporary road.
Motorists are advised to expect lengthy delays and consider using an alternative route, such as SH1 or SH30.
Cars and non-heavy vehicles can also use SH5-Tumunui Road, on to Corbett Road, on to Hossack Road, on to Waikite Valley Rd, and then back to SH5.
Transport Agency contractors are undertaking major repairs at the site after the road was damaged by a natural process called tunnel erosion.
SH30 Rotorua - Iles Road/Te Ngae Road intersection upgrade (Lynmore junction)
Work continues on the upgrade to the intersection at Iles Road and Te Ngae Road (SH30), also known as Lynmore junction.
Motorists can expect some delays while work is being carried out, but Lynmore residents can use alternative routes such as Vaughn Road and the Tarawera/Lynmore connections to minimise the impact.
Lights and a controlled pedestrian crossing are being installed as part of the Lynmore development.
The work is expected to be finished by mid-November.

Isn't it time these games were held in a different city each year ? Give all the schools a chance to compete on their own turf.
