Rangataua take out title

There is no better song to describe Rangataua than Queen's hit We Are The Champions. The club created history for themselves when they beat Mount Maunganui 35-33.

On a cold and we Blake Park Rangataua did what many thought was impossible, well apart from of course Rangataua supporters, and that was to beat the Mount at home in the Baywide Premier One title.

It's the first time the club has taken home the title. But the side appeared possessed and by halftime had jumped out to a 24-10 lead.

The boys in black managed to extend the lead to 35-26 before the Mount clawed their way back to make the last five minutes of the match a real nail biter.

In another upset Paroa beat Whakarewarewa in the Baywide Premier Two final at Puarenga Park in Rotorua and Te Teko beat Judea 23-10, after 20 minutes of extra time.

Waimana beat Murupara 38-15 in the Division Two final, Tauranga Sports beat Mount Maunganui 28-11 in the Development One final in the early game at Blake Park and Opotiki beat Waikite 34-17 in Development Two final.
