Four years of delays for motorists are starting next week at the Domain Road roundabout.
The works commence on Monday, May 23 and are a part of the Tauranga Eastern Link project.
Domain Road roundabout.
The initial stage of these works sees the roundabout lanes being narrowed and temporary concrete barriers and screening installed.
Once the new roundabout layout is in place, the slip lane for State Highway 2 traffic travelling from Te Puke towards Tauranga will be closed.
NZTA Tauranga Eastern Link principal project manager Andrew Scott says various temporary road layouts and speed restrictions will be in place near the roundabout for the next four years whilst the new Domain Road interchange is being built.
'While we will always try to minimise the effect on the travelling public, everyone travelling through the work site needs to take care,” says Andrew.
'Lane widths will be narrowed and this will require extra care and attention.”
A temporary speed restriction of 50km/h will be in place at all times through this area.
'I would like to thank the public in advance for their patience while construction work is being carried out.”

What a disgusting and unbelievable waste of money that was spent on the current roundabout system at the end of Domain Road. To read that this is to be wiped out and replaced by a new roundabout system at the junction of Domain and Tara Roads is incredible. It took long enough for the existing system to be built and now it is to be replaced by a new one in the not too distant future. It has been in operation for less than five years. I would like to know what the existing system cost to construct including the planning and resource consents etc etc. Transit NZ must have known about the new bypass and what was involved when the current roundabout system was built. No wonder NZ is in such a financial mess when wastage such as this is permitted.
Someone should lose there job over this!

I too was absolutely disgusted to see this new round-a-longa-cirlce-about cartoon drawing of a picture in the paper! Whoever dreamed up this crap should be shot. Why do we need to waste all that money on that crap? Why not just replace the existing tara rd and domain rd `T` intersection with a small and simple roundabout. Leave the existing roundabout at Domain rd and SH 2 as it is and just build the new expressway over the top in one bridge. Then put on and off ramps from the expressway down onto the existing road on either side of the existing roundabout?!?!?! Isn`t there going to be a lot less traffic on the `old` road anyway? This is typical nonsense from some over paid, over educated nit wits at NZTA trying to way over complicate a simple road interchange! He/she should go back to school and learn some simple, effective, cheaper and way simpler interchange for road users! I`d be glad to draw them a picture if it`s to hard for them to get there head around it.....!!
And to think these NZTA people walk among us HUOA
