It’s business time for club rugby

It's getting down to the business end of the Baywinde men's club rugby competition and Tauranga Sports will return home to face an informed Rangataua side today.

The men's competition is entering into the final rounds to determine the top four ahead of semi-finals weekend on the Saturday July 30, and Tauranga Sports coach Zane Winslade says Rangataua present a real danger this afternoon in the premier one division.

'Another big game this weekend. Rangataua are a dangerous side so this should be another good test for us.

'We are looking to continue to build on our defence which has improved over the last few weeks.

On attack we just need some good execution and to build pressure without being reckless, sometimes we probably try too hard to make things happen.

'We are at the business end of the season so we are getting to that point where we just need to consolidate, maintain belief in what we are doing, enjoy our rugby and hopefully each week the boys can go out and express themselves and put in a performance to be proud of.”

Rangataua coach Aramahou Ririnui says his team will be looking to build on their current form and rectify the mistakes made last week.

'Going into the game our focus will be based on getting the basics right in set piece and phase play.

Tauranga Sports are a formidable side and we are aware of what they are capable of doing, so our defence systems will have to be on point.”

The game is being played at Tauranga Domain, kick off at 2.45pm.

In the premier two clash it is an Eastern Bay of Plenty derby between two inform sides. Paroa coach George Harawira says his side is excited about his side's match up against Poroporo.

'Especially being a local derby, it is one of those ones you don't want to lose.” George highlights his teams focus for this weekend.

'We will be looking to implement what we did against Ngongotaha. That is to play a little bit quicker, be a little more ruthless and execute when the time comes.

'We took it upon ourselves to get this weekend's referee in to discuss with us his interpretation of the breakdown law and hopefully that will save us from getting penalised off the park. If we can tidy up in that area then we have a big chance.”

He says they will be looking to ensure they have speed at the breakdown and nail down their ball carriers.

'If we can tie up their inside backs then we can let our inside backs go and that will be good”.

Poroporo coach Ed Maui says his side is in good spirits.

'We have come off a loss but we have taken a lot of positives from it.

'It is very important for us to get the win this weekend. The next three games are important if we are looking to see where we are going to be on the ladder at the end of the round.

Ed says the side is focused on today's game.

'I think we have to look at it as a must win game. In saying that we are going up against a team that has been in the premier division the past couple of seasons. I think we are definitely going into it as under dogs but that is where we want to be.”

The game is being played at Lawson Park, kick off at 2.45pm.
