The United Nations and World Health Organisation supported international ‘Decade of Action for Road Safety' begins today and the NZ Transport Agency is on board with the programme.
Harry Wilson.
NZTA Bay of Plenty regional director Harry Wilson says it is about improving road safety and says much of the work his organisation is doing is about improving that through the national strategy called ‘Safer Journeys'.
It is a government response to the nearly 1.3 million people worldwide who die each year as a result of road collisions, making road traffic injuries the tenth leading cause of death globally.
He says as well as regulating vehicle and driving standards, NZTA works with councils to promote road safety through the kiwifruit, lifesaver and Ruru campaigns, and carries out a series of safety-focused construction projects on the highways.

Good to see something proactive being done to reduce Road Crash Stats. Time to focus on the country roads around Kiwifruit transportation and forklifts operating on unlit roads at night.
