Maori ABs tour confirmed

The Maori All Blacks programme for their northern hemisphere tour later this year has been announced, with the side's final game to be against London's Harlequins.

New Zealand Rugby confirmed yesterday the programme, which takes on the United States Eagles in Chicago, Munster in Ireland and the Harlequins in England in November.

Maori All Blacks final tour match has been confirmed. File.

The announcement comes on the heels of the Munster game, which was announced last week.

United States Eagles will host the Maori All Blacks at Toyota Park on November 4, in a history double header rugby weekend with the All Blacks playing Ireland at Chicago's Soldier Field stadium the following day.

The Maori All Blacks will then play Munster at Thomond Park in Limerick on November 11, followed by the Harlequins at the Twickenham Stoop in London on November 16.

Maori Rugby Board chairman Wayne Peters says the confirmed programme provided a wonderful opportunity for rugby fans on both sides of the Atlantic to enjoy the style of rugby for which both New Zealand squads are renowned for.

'The Maori All Blacks are an important part of New Zealand Rugby's high performance strategy and when they play on the international stage it is an opportunity to press for other honours.”

He says this is a fantastic tour for players and for fans in the United States, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

'We're incredibly proud of this team and their ability to take their culture and style of rugby to the world. They're a special team that is popular anywhere they travel and they're always exciting to watch.”

Harlequins chief executive David Ellis says the club will celebrate 150 years and the match against the Maori All Blacks will form an integral part of the celebrations.

'The two sides previously met in 1926, and I'm sure this match will be very popular among our supporters.”

Sorry, but any race based team selection is a disgrace. Shame on NZ.

One All Black Team

There is only one "All Black" team and that is made up of individuals from various ethinc origin NZers. You can't have more than one "All Black" team as that is a registered name. This Maori team should be named simply "The New Zealand Maori Rugby Team".
