Drone footage of the Kennedy Bay Road slip caused by the heavy rains in the Coromandel in April has now appeared online.
Shot by Opus International Consultants prior to carrying out repairs, the footage shows the size of the slip and why fixing it was more than a simple case of pushing the debris away overnight.

On April 17, the Coromandel, particularly in the northeast of the peninsula between Whangapoua to Sandy Bay, was smashed by a burst of heavy rains causing flooding and slips around the district.
Thames-Coromandel District Council Infrastructure Group manager Bruce Hinson says looking at the footage, he's impressed with how quickly contractors managed to get one lane open.
'Further work is still required to restore two-lane access, but using the drone technology has certainly helped the Opus engineers assess the damage, and will provide valuable information when designing the permanent solution.”
Bruce would like to thank the affected communities of Kennedy Bay and Tuateawa for their patience while the road was cleared, saying they couldn't have managed the repairs without their support.
'The extra travel time for the affected communities was unfortunate and we are extremely grateful for their patience, understanding and goodwill.
