White Island has had a shaky start to the morning with two earthquakes recorded in the region.
GeoNet reports a light earthquake hit the region about 9.13am.

It registered 2.9 on the Richter scale and had a focal depth of 5km.
Four minutes later, a moderate earthquake was recorded within 5km of White Island at 9.17am.
GeoNet says this had a focal depth of 5km and had a magnitude of 3.4.
White Island's volcanic alert level is currently sitting at one, meaning there is minor volcanic unrest.
