$350M investment signalled for CBD

More than $350 million has been identified as potential investment in the Tauranga's city centre in the next five years.

Priority One believes the potential investment is a sign of the growing confidence New Zealand's fifth largest and fastest growing city.

'A strong indicator of the growing confidence in the city centre was witnessed in February as we welcomed Trustpower's 525 staff into their stunning new bespoke premises on Durham Street,” says Priority One chief executive Andrew Coker.

The relocation from their old premises in Te Maunga was completed by early March and with it, Andrew feels the CBD rapidly took on a new, vital and vibrant feel.

'The investment by Trustpower in its building, people and a state-of-the-art ‘activity based working' environment is not only significant, it also contributed substantially to, and reflects the growing confidence and interest in, city centre investment and development.”

Priority One is aware of at least six companies that are well into the throes of considering a move to Tauranga's city centre, with two of these from out of region.

Andrew says they will also bring new knowledge-intensive jobs to the city centre.

City centre investment over the last five years has totalled approximately $150 million, largely from the private sector.

Priority One has identified potential investment over the next five years, both public and private, in excess of $350 million.

This includes the university-led tertiary and research campus now in planning, a potential four to five-star hotel, and of course Tauranga City Council's initiatives around development of a new civic campus.

'This bodes well not only for the city, but also the broader Western Bay of Plenty sub-region,” says Andrew.

'A strong and vibrant civic, commercial and cultural heart will be vital to our ability to compete nationally and internationally for skills and talent.”

Good old Priority One justifying their existence again with Bureaucratic words.

Priority One is GREAT!

Priority One doesn't need to justify its existence as its already doing great work in the community. Those of you that are uninformed should stop by their office and have a chat. One of their most interesting projects is called the Young Innovators Awards. Its a project to get our youth involved in becoming problem solvers.

Andrews dribble

This whole story is one big Priority One dribble. If you really have an involvement in the CBD like ourselves you would know that there has been a downward trend in foot traffic since Trustpower were coerced into the CBD because of their uptake of all the available parking. Secondly they continue to think that the people who read last years CBD dribble from them have forgotten what it was about because they have continued to roll out the same old story word for word for the last eight years and this year is no exception. They are putting on a show for the public because they are asking for an increase from our hard earned money via the commercial rates and they know that there is substantial resistance to this increase.Time for them to be removed as they are well past their use by date.

Where is the proof?

Very rarely do we hear anything about Young Innovaters through Priority One. It is always this ponticating by Andrew about how well Tauranga is doing and that it is all thanks to their involvement. They go to overseas employment expos and then lay claim to all these businesses relocating to Tauranga. Absolute garbage. Stop funding them Council.Totally agree with Accountable.

I could name 4 ventures that have been mooted, none of them are anywhere near being confirmed, absolute dribble, and it's only coming from one side of the mouth, so nothing is on the level here, talk it up!!, and " conzar" total up the salaries of all Priority One staff and see if the service they say give is warranted, the Chamber are or should be offering everything these phycophants are, as "sage" and "Accountable" have said.... basically useless, they are full of stale air, all the fringe entities need to be merged with the staff of one of them!!!.

So sad

Right now there is a lot of hot air about the wonderful (sic) CBD, here's an idea, lets spend more money on stuff....! Sadly the CDB is going to need a multi discipline team approach to fix it problems

Tired of it

Just more flannel. Even if they could organise a vicar's tea party the Council oud stop them in their tracks

No proof is required, Priority One simply just make up a good yarn and pretend it is the truth. The $150m spend in the last 5 years is a joke, virtually all of that is EQ required fix-ups, none of it is real or additions to anything, no value added, no expansion, nothing has resulted except owners trying to retain the property value, that is all.

and the reverse simply applies to you, give me a positive not simply a negative, some of us want only the best for a simply dis functional city, so let us hear your positive way forward!!!.

USE YOUR REAL NAMES

Apart from Jimmy...how about all you whingers start USING YOUR REAL NAMES. On the same day, they reported Tauranga City Council had one of the WORST credit ratings for a Council, and then this was reported....MONEY TREE ANYONE?
