Everest documentary to raise funds

A documentary showing a sherpa's point of view of climbing Mount Everest will be aired at Rialto Cinema later this month.

Proceeds raised from the documentary's screening will go towards work of the Himalayan Trust in the Everest region of Nepal.

Phurba Tashi, one of the main characters, with his father.

Documentary filmmaker Jennifer Peedom set out to make a film of the 2014 Everest climbing season from the Sherpas' point of view.

Her aim was to raise awareness of the disproportionate risks the Sherpas take bringing foreigners to the summit of Everest. Instead Jennifer and the film crew captured a tragedy that would change Everest forever.

At 6.45am on April 18, 2014, a 14 million ton block of ice crashed down onto the climbing route, killing 16 Sherpas.

Sherpa: Trouble on Everest tells the story of how the Sherpas united in grief and anger to reclaim the mountain they call Chomolungma.
