Discussion held about roundabout

An open day to discuss Bayfair roundabout options is being held at the Hillier Centre on Tuesday, 4-7pm.

The Bayfair roundabout.

'We're asking people to tell us about any issues or difficulties they experience at the intersection that might affect the design of any improvements,” says NZTA Bay of Plenty state highway manager Rod James.

'So far, we know the intersection suffers severe congestion, a high crash rate and increasing conflict between local and through traffic, especially heavy commercial vehicles.

'We'd like to hear how and when people use the intersection and what their experiences are like.”

The agency will review information received following the open day, carry out technical surveys and develop potential options.

A second open day will be held later in the year where people will have an opportunity to review and comment on proposed options.

Once the preferred solution is identified and costs estimated, the project will be prioritised for design and construction funding through the Regional Land Transport Programme.

The Hillier Centre is at 31 Gloucester Road, Mount Maunganui. From Girven Road the centre is on the left after the church, down a long drive.

What is the use of discussion. For years this roudabout has been an absolute disaster. TIME FOR ACTION NOT WORDS. Surely the N.Z.T.A. know it is time to do something. Why does so any people use Oceanbeach road. answer to avoid that blasted roundabout.

The challenges at the corner have only become predicably worse with teh Habour bridge now complete, the traffic therefore moves quickly to the next bottle neck, you found it folks! Solution is easy, traffic lights or a fly over down Maunganui Road, take your pick.
