Rain predictions for the region

The MetService is forecasting a chance of rain for the next few days.

A low north of the country is expected to direct a moist northeast flow onto the North Island, bringing rain to much of the North Island on Friday or over the weekend.

'The two areas that are most likely to experience warning amounts of rain are the Coromandel Peninsula and Gisborne,” says a statement from the weather organisation.

'There is a moderate risk that a warning will be issued for these areas covering Friday and Saturday in the Coromandel and Saturday and Sunday in Gisborne.”

Outside these moderate risk areas, there is a low risk that a rainfall warning will be required in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, western Bay of Plenty and Taupo on Friday and Saturday and in eastern Bay of Plenty and Hawke's Bay during Saturday and Sunday.

'A high should move onto the South Island late Friday and Saturday and spread onto the North Island on Monday.”
