Star pianist to play Baycourt

Prolific and treasured Australian concert pianist David Helfgott will be performing a special one-off concert in Tauranga next month.

One of only two New Zealand shows, David will be joined on stage by internationally acclaimed pianist Rhodri Clarke at the Baycourt Community and Arts Centre on Sunday, February 28.

This concert will feature a performance of Rachmaninoff's ‘Third Piano Concerto in D minor', an exquisite and complex work made famous by the Academy Award-winning biographical film ‘Shine', which is based on David's life.

Baycourt manager Megan Peacock Coyle says they are thrilled to be hosting host David next month.

'It is very exciting to have David Helfgott playing at Baycourt. I have no doubt our audience will be captivated by this wonderful performance,” she says.

To celebrate the 20 years since the release of ‘Shine', Night Owl Cinema and Baycourt will team up again to present a special outdoor screening of the movie on Saturday, February 27.

Taking place at the Baycourt Lawn Bar, there will be pre-show entertainment from the Animato String Quartet, plus acoustic folk duo Phil & Tilley starting at 6.30pm. Food trucks from Little Big Markets will also be available and entry is by gold coin donation.

'Enjoy an evening under the stars and the Baycourt Lawn Bar.

'We're thrilled to again be collaborating with Night Owl Cinema to present an exciting weekend of entertainment at Baycourt,” says Megan.
