Tiki Tane: no place like the Bay

When your title a song No Place Like Home, it's only right you launch that song from the beautiful Bay of Plenty.

That is exactly what musician Tiki Tane did today as about 30 media were flown to Tauranga and hung out with the singer/song writer at the Mount Maunganui Surf Lifesaving Club where he performed his latest song along with a number of his favourite numbers this afternoon.

Tiki says bringing the media to the Mount was an appropriate setting.

'The thing is the single comes out February 5th and it's this coming Friday and normally you'd travel to Auckland and you do the rounds and you do 30 interviews in 24 hours kind of thing.

'So I thought ‘you know what? This song is about Te Moana o Toi, the Bay of Plenty. Why don't we bring in all those media people down to the Bay'.”

The entertainer says it was the opportunity for the media to see what the Bay was really like.

'They can come down to the Bay here, hang out at the surf club and I'll play the song to them live plus do a couple of other songs. Then we will show them around the Bay and take them to the On The Lawn Festival and then put them on the plane again.”

Tiki says the gig was a success with the media giving him a lot of positive feedback.

'Everyone is stoked… They are all here, they're all happy, they all loved it. Instead of me going to Auckland I brought Auckland to the Bay. It was great.”

The 39-year-old has had a number of hits including Always on My Mind, Tangaroa and Starship Lullaby.

Born in Christchurch, Tiki now calls Papamoa his home. All proceeds for the single will go to the Tauranga charity, Good Neighbour.

He says the song was a community effort with a diverse range of friends including Ria Hall, Michael Barker and a number of other great artists taking part in the single.

'It's been an incredible journey pulling in all the musicians and performers who feature in the song and to have the support from iwi and Bay of Plenty locals has been monumental for this project's existence.”

No Place Like Home is available for purchase and streaming across all digital platforms from February 5.
