Electronic transaction company Paymark is not revealing if Bay of Plenty retailers are among 400 New Zealand businesses that face having their Eftpos terminals disconnected.
The disconnections come as a result of retailers who, despite months of warning, have not upgraded out-of-date terminals.
The terminals now pose risks to the safety and security of transactions.
Retailers with out of date terminals operated under an agreement with their bank, which has allowed them extra time to get their equipment upgraded, but that agreement expired on Monday.
A spokesperson for Paymark would not confirm to SunLive if businesses in the Bay of Plenty now have disconnected Eftpos terminals.
The spokesperson says the information is confidential.
Paymark CEO, Simon Tong, says businesses that do not upgrade in time will be disconnected.
'The cost of upgrading is not going to get any cheaper.”
