Welcome to the first week of January Sunners!

There's plenty of action taking place today for all of you lucky people still on holiday, including super saloons and freestyle motocross, outdoor markets, plus laugh out loud comedy.

The weather also looks like it's going to play ball, with remaining showers clearing and making for a fine afternoon – so make sure you get out and enjoy any sunshine coming our way.

First up is the Little Big Markets which is on at the corner of Matai Street and Maunganui Road in Mount Maunganui until 2pm today.

The markets is a place to hang out and catch up with friends whilst sampling, admiring and enjoying some of the best artisan food and craft available.

Later on tonight will be the third and final night of the Summer Comedy Festival, which is part of Tauranga City Council's My Summer events programme.

Taking place at the Mount Sports Centre, it will feature comedians Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Jamie Bowen, James Roque and MC Tim Batt. Tickets start from $35.

If high octane action is more your thing, then head down to the Metal Man Recyclers Baypark Family Speedway for the South Pacific Super Saloon Car Championship and FMX Show.

More than 30 sprint and saloon cars will battle it out on the track, while Tauranga freestyle motocross riders Luke Price and Nick Franklin will headline the FMX Show. Gates open at 5pm on race nights, racing starts at 6.30pm.

Finally, council's My Summer Beach Base at Mount Drury will also open from 10am-4.30pm, with plenty of family-friendly entertainment on offer.
