Pirates at the Mount

There was a lot of Arrring going on at Mount Drury for the annual Pirate Day in Mount Maunganui today.

Tauranga City Council event design and deliver manager Michaela Blackman says part of the booty up for grabs were 10 family passes on Kewpie Cruises as well as prizes donated by Mount Maunganui New World.

'They had eight stations where the (children) had to do a challenge. They had to do things like walk a plank and do the best Arrrrr and a pirate tongue twister… It was a lot of fun.”

Michaela says it's the first time Council had help run the event along with The Hits and it was a 'fantastic” hit.

'It was absolutely fantastic. There were so many families here it was brilliant. It was more successful than I imagined actually.”

Having all the families take part in the event was a great feeling Michaela says.

'It's so good to encourage families to come down and enjoy this area in Mount Drury. Because right now at this time of the year. It becomes the realm of teenagers and it's nice to get the little kids in here as well.”
