The value of transactions in the Bay of Plenty during August might be down on the same time last year but the figures are expected to rise.
There was $235.5million spent in the Bay of Plenty in August, down 1.6 per cent from the same period last year.
Kirby Weis, Tauranga Mainstreet manager, says Tauranga is traditionally a very seasonal retail environment and predicts transaction values will increase into the summer season.
'There was a bit more retail activity at the end of August. Tauranga still gets affected by the seasons quite a lot,” says Kirby.
He says the spectacular weather over the weekend, combined with major events like the harbour bridge open day, created a positive atmosphere in Tauranga's CBD.
'There were lots and lots of people around town over the weekend. That doesn't always equate to greater retail spending but people are coming in to the city and seeing what's on offer and that has a flow on effect,” says Kirby.
