Get down on a funky reggae party

After several months locked away in the studio working on new tunes, the boys from Katchafire are firing up and hitting the road this week.

'It's about time we get back on the road, we've missed you guys and can't wait to reconnect with all our Coromandel fans,” says Katchafire drummer Jordan Bell.

Part of Katchafire and Sons Of Zion's summer tour, Aotearoa's preeminent reggae bands will be joined by special guest Ladi 6 down at the Coroglen Tavern this Sunday, December 27.

Jordan says this will be the third summer tour that the two reggae bands have teamed up for.

'The previous ones had an awesome vibe to them and you know what they say – if it ain't broke, don't fix it,” says Jordan.

'All the gigs we've done before at the Coroglen Tavern have been epic, so we can't wait to get back there. And it's always mean to have a swim under the bridge nearby too.”

The upcoming summer tour will cap off a brilliant year for the Hamilton band who toured parts of South and North America, Europe, the United Kingdom and the Pacific Islands spreading the Katchafire sound and its message of love, peace and whanau.

Jordan recalls one gig on the Azores Islands which is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and where the people speak Portuguese.

'Nobody speaks English,” he recalls, 'and when we got on stage the only English the crowd knew were our songs. That was a buzz, seeing them with their heads back singing at the top of their voices. Truly, truly humbling.”

These last two months have seen Katchafire locked in the studio working on music for their forthcoming album, which should be released next year.

Jordan says there'll be some new and exciting jams coming up on the new album which will keep the full spectrum of reggae – 'from early roots to the new school styles that are coming out now”.

'We're loving what we're coming up with and we'll debut some of the new stuff over the summer to give people a little taster. So If you want a sneak peak of what you're in then get down to Coroglen.

'We'd love to see you all down there and getting down on a funky reggae party, it'll be epic,” says Jordan.
